Exhibition: zwischen den Polen
Works on paper by Claudia Larissa Artz und Eva Jeske
Oct. 17th-20th, 2024. Kunsthaus Rhenania, Bayenstr. 28, 50678 Cologne Vernissage: Oct. 17th, 6-10pm
Open: Fr. 4-8pm | Sa. 12-6pm | Sun. 12-6pm Guided tours by the artists: Fr. 3-4pm & Sa, 3-4pm Artist talk: Dr. Peter Lodermeyer, Art Historian, Sun. 3.30pm The artists Claudia Larissa Artz and Eva Jeske are united by their use of the line in their abstract, non-representational works on paper. Through these lines, they explore themes of time, silence, sound, dynamics, and movement. However, upon closer inspection, their differing artistic approaches become apparent.
Their work opens up a space where lines range from analytical to organic, from free to geometric forms. Between these extremes, a variety of experiences and interpretations emerge. In their exhibition "Between the Poles," the tension and resonance between their distinct styles amplify each other’s uniqueness. In the large exhibition space at Rhenania, they approach the room’s interior with a collaborative chalk floor drawing. This collaboration highlights the value of differences and how they can lead to new connections and creations. Visitors are invited to engage directly with the artworks, reflect on each artist’s strengths, and experience how art fosters communication, closeness, and tolerance. The exhibition is supported by: Stadt Köln Kulturamt.

Performance ECHO:LOT by r a u f e n
July 21st, 2023 Barbarastr. 3, 50735 Cologne 9pm Eva Jeske – slide projector | paintings Barbara Schachtner – voice | sound “raufen” are a painter and a singer. “Raufen” a german word that can be translated as “playful fight” describes their ongoing openness for each other´s instrument and expression, which, from time to time, can end in a (playful) fight. Together they venture with a sense of adventure into the depths of their possibilities and sort things out (another sense of the word “raufen”). Jeske's projections are split, scattered, mirrored, and thereby flood the entire space with moving and ever-changing images. The sound feeds off the respective sounds of the surroundings. The voice potentially carries existing sentences and metaphors about the different places into the space, performed expressively by Schachtner. This performance was supported by the IFM e. V. | Initiative for Independent Music in Cologne, funded by the City of Cologne, Cultural Office. |

Paint Memories
Sound-Installation (2022) For 8-channel live electronics and a painting. Thu – Sud, June 23rd – 25th, 2022 At ZKM kleines Studio Lorenzstraße 19 76135 Karlsruhe Germany A collaboration with the composer Eduardo Loría. We are both interested in the perception and representation of what normally remains hidden. Here we enter into a very close connection between sound and image that receives little attention: The sounds that emerge while painting, which have their own musical potential. In this way, we enable the visitors to reflect on the sonic aspect of the paintings and to perceive it in the paintings themselves. In addition, the sound in the installative context also becomes recognisable in its expanded potential as space. Instead of the usual time sequence of a piece, the sound opens up a space through which the visitors can walk, into which they can immerse themselves. Time, as we know it, no longer plays a role here, the visitors can simultaneously perceive the past (the sound here becomes a memory of the genesis of the paintings) and the present of the painting. |

Music release ART.IS.∙
ART.IS.∙ the book + the music is available now!
You can get the book and/or the music HERE
Every book contains a downloadcode and I would recommend getting the book to get the full experience but you can also get the music only!
The music:
solo extended snare drum
The album is Etienne Nillesen playing to 8 different themes that are also interpreted visually by me in the ART.IS.∙ book. Every piece Etienne has recorded can be seen/ heard like a little statue. The music doesn’t have a common musical form and for the most part doesn’t even have a development that you would expect in music. The music is very static. This creates the possibility to look/listen to it more deeply, see/hear it from different angles, walk around it with your ears, and discover different movements, layers, depth, colors, structures and details.

where: Fuhrwerkswaage Kunstraum
Bergstraße 79

EVA JESKE (DE)– visuals
NICOLA L. HEIN (DE) - prepared guitar
“The Sound and the Unsound: a quest for the ontology of music” explores the intersection
between audiovisual perception and musical imagination. The Project originates in the music-philosophical question about the nature and material-boundness of music, asks where the ontology of music lies in our music making. The artists construct and compose a music that occurs in the
medium of sound and in the medium of light/shadow. The focus is on the independent musical qualities of the media, as well as their negating and affirmative dialectics.
Summer is here! What gets better than having some food and drinks outside over sunset, in company with some curious musical minds before the performance starts!?
8 pm Reception
8.30 pm “Listening to Lights”, in conversation with Viola Yip on her insights on her work with lights

Entrance: 10 €
